Deloitte – Team Training

"The quality of the products is tremendous. Hearing directly from author Patrick Lencioni is a great way to connect with the material and start the process of building teams. We plan to roll our program out extensively within the firm."

Deloitte Consulting

Deloitte, a global professional services firm, developed and implemented a team training module utilizing The Five Dysfunctions of a Team for both its internal and client project teams. Following a major realignment of the firm, teamwork throughout the organization became a real priority. Led by a regional managing partner, the firm initiated a process to develop a culture of high performance teaming.

After evaluating a variety of options and team models, a course on based on the Five Dysfunctions was developed. In this half-day course for team leaders and members, participants view The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Video Presentation, and then follow-up with an Online Team Assessment to provide each team with specific points of action.

Specifically, Deloitte uses the video to "unveil" each dysfunction, and then discuss its implications as a team. This provides both the theory and application necessary to make meaningful progress on the team. The Online Team Assessment then provides insight to how each team is actually performing against the model and outlines a plan for overcoming the dysfunctions.

Deloitte uses the products to establish a clear common language and expectations, thereby eliminating the ambiguity that exists when new project teams are formed. With the ramp-up time significantly shortened, teams have become significantly more productive in a shorter period of time. Many team members were so enthusiast about the program, they plan to use the concepts and tools with their client teams.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive response from participants, the course is now being rolled out more broadly and made available on Deloitte's intranet.
